Human Growth Hormone – Medicine Or Miracle?

As men and women age, their bodies begin a natural reduction in the production of some of the hormones that were present in abundance in their earlier years. One of the most important of these hormones is the Human Growth Hormone (HGH). Human Growth Hormone is produced by the pituitary gland and is most active when we are children and adolescents, when it promotes our natural and rapid growth. Human Growth Hormone acts on the liver, producing IGF-1. Because this product decreases when a person begins to age or grow obese, HGH has been widely promoted as a remedy for aging and many other areas that humans worry about as they grow older.

A study was conducted in the 1990s that showed that when HGH was injected into men age 61-81 there was a reduction in fatty tissue and an increase in muscle mass. Immediately, entrepreneurs began to see the opportunities and marketed HGH as a veritable fountain of youth. They failed, however, to note that subjects in the experiment had had some side effects and that the results of long term injection of HGH into healthy adults were unknown. Moreover, the treatment was and continues to be extremely expensive.

Medicinal uses of HGH have been mostly restricted to children, despite what some companies claim. These children were injected with what should have been occurring in their bodies naturally, not with a substance that had begun to decline after their years of growth had passed.

Many companies have been shut down due to false advertising involving the use of HGH. Journals that originally ran the story about the study have themselves cautioned people that the study was by no means complete or conclusive, and that HGH is not yet proven to be some kind of wonder drug. Of even more importance, the side effects of injecting HGH into adults have still not been determined. Many agencies urge consumers to stay away from HGH and companies that promote HGH as a miracle substance, as the claims are at best misleading and at worst harmful.

3 “Must Do” – Steps To A Happier & Healthier Day

Losing weight and maintaining the weight loss for an extended period of time requires some simple lifestyle adjustments. As long as you keep your adjustments within a sustainable reach, you should be able to lose weight and keep it off without much shock and interruption to your daily life.

Not surprisingly, losing weight does not have to require extended trips to the gym or engagement in some fad diet. Here are there steps to a healthier day that can help you slim down on weight without slimming down on your free time.

Exercise Daily

Daily exercise can make a difference in your body shape and in the way your body processes calories. When you exercise, you work your heart, mind and body. You are building your muscle mass, which in turn will increase the effectiveness of your metabolism.

Additionally, you encourage your heart to pump blood throughout your body more effectively, which means that you will have healthier blood and a reduced risk of heart disease. You reduce fatty deposits, which in turn helps reduce your risk of many health problems, such as diabetes. You also increase the number of endorphins that flow through your body, which means that you will note an increase in your positive attitude.

It does not require a large amount of time exercising to receive all of the above benefit. You simply need to workout regularly for a minimum of half an hour. Working out means taking a two-mile walk at a fast pace, throwing a Frisbee or riding a bicycle. Whatever the workout is, keep in mind that it should elevate your heart above it standing heart rate and it should make you breathe slightly heavier than normal. It is also good if you can break a sweat or feel your muscles challenged.

Eat All Things in Moderation

When you are trying to lose weight or sustain lost weight, it is vital that you allow yourself to eat all foods, but eat the unhealthy ones in moderation. The primary reason for many diets to fail is that people reduce the foods that they allow themselves to eat so drastically that they feel anxious after awhile eating the same things time and time again. When you allow yourself to give into simple cravings, you are rewarding your body and making it less tempted to crave larger portions of the bad foods.

You should also eat small portions of every food, regardless of its nutritional content. Eating smaller portions will help your stomach adjust to consuming less food. You can also drink water to help you feel full. American’s especially have a habit of eating more than one portion of food per meal – so be aware of your food portions!

Call a Buddy

Studies prove that having a Buddy help you work out increases your chances of maintaining a diet, exercise routine, or long-term weight loss. Buddies are fabulous motivators. They will keep you attuned to your habits and help you feel accountable throughout the day. If you must, enlist the help of a partner to be an appointed weight loss guardian. He or she will be tasked with ensuring that you stick to your weight loss goals by encouraging you to report your progress several times a week.

MY EYES!

It has come to my attention that wearing glasses stinks. My father wears glasses, and i dont know if it is that I didnt want to hear it, or I just plain ignored him, but apparently he has been complaining about glasses since I was young. Well pops, do something about it!

Actually I can’t be that rude, he has done something about it. He now wears contacts and loves every minute of it. He says it is WAY different than glasses. With glasses, apparently, you can see clear straight ahead, but it is blurry peripherally. The deal with contacts is, you don’t have any blurry vision at all, which I hear is nice.

Contacts, however, still leave you with a few jobs. These duties entail taking them in and out, replacing them if lost, and keeping them moist when they are not in. When dad wakes up in the morning he still has bad vision, because you can not wear contacts overnight. Well what else can he do?!

EYE SURGERY! True, it’s expensive, but after this it’s like you’ve never worn glasses before in your life. Your riding high on the "I can see clearly" cloud. Eye surgery is low risk, so dont be too afraid to try it out. That’s the next step for dad I think. In my opinion, your eyes are a pretty good investment.

You Are What You Drink

The average American today gets about 21% of their from beverages, consuming about 150 to 300 more calories than 30 years ago. Half of this intake comes from soft drinks and juice drinks. Why?….portions are bigger, and the percentage of people consuming these beverages has gone up.

There is a connection with soda and juice drinks and obesity, as well as any beverages with calories. There are groups of adults who have tripled their daily intake of alcoholic beverages, and other adults who have started having a smoothie a day. Studies show that weight gain occurs when you shift from noncaloric beverages to calorically sweetened ones. If you drink a beverage, whether it is a soda, alcoholic beverage or juice, you do not compensate by eating less food later.

Beverages are less satiating than solid foods. When you consume calories from beverages, you do not necessarily compensate by eating less food later. Calories that come from liquid do not register with our appetite controls. In fact many individuals eat even more calories than they normally would when they have an alcoholic beverage before a meal. Why?…alcohol lowers a persons inhibitions, as well as sets up a fall in blood sugar, which causes a person to want to more.

Water is really all we need to drink for a healthy balanced diet. Water does several things for our bodies. First it quenches our thirst, second it helps to eliminate the high amounts of sodium found in our foods today, and third it helps our elimination system work more effectively. Though an occasional alcoholic drink, fruit juice, soda or cup of coffee is ok, it is important for us to get back to basics and eat and drink in moderation to live healthier lives.

What should we drink? Below are recommendations made by Nutritionists for a balanced diet.

6 to 8 servings of water daily.
2 servings of unsweetened coffee or tea a day
2 servings of milk a day
No more than 4 diet drinks a day
Either one alcoholic, sports drink, or100% fruit juice a day
One soda a day

Your Quality of Life (2)

You have to breathe everyday in order to live; now you know that every time you take a breath free-radicals are entering into your body and doing damage. You can however win the game if you take in large amounts of anti-oxidants to refresh your team players. Anti-oxidants are your really big players; they are molecules or atoms that have an extra electron that they will give to a free-radical. When this happens the free-radical no longer plays on the opposing team, instead it begins to play for you. This is what I call building your team forces, your team force is your immune system. Your team works together but your immune system is your coach, if your immune system is strong it can send in the needed players at the right time to fight any invaders that your body may encounter. But you have to feed your immune system; it requires necessary minerals and vitamins as well as large doses of anti-oxidants everyday. If you starve your immune system of the required nutrients, then the players on the field do not get the reinforcements they need to win. Most people start taking multi-vitamins when they get older, but parents should start their children on multi-vitamins as soon as possible and teach their children about nutrition starting at a very young age. People as young as 20 years of age are being diagnosed with diabetes in this country due to their poor eating habits. This is a very scary trend that is taking place. Many 30 year olds have heart disease also due to their poor eating habits, “hardening of their arteries”. Scary!

What did you eat today? You are breathing in polluted air as you are reading this article, what type of defense did you provide your immune system with today? I hope you took your vitamins and minerals; did you eat any fresh fruits, or fresh vegetables? What about your children?

Most plants contain about 1,000 to 1,500 anti-oxidants, vitamins and minerals also contain large numbers of anti-oxidants. Vitamin C and E contain the largest amount of anti-oxidants. You can take as much vitamin C as you want without harming your body, but vitamin E has a recommended dosage per day, take much more and you can cause yourself problems, do not exceed any recommended dosage for your weight. Fish also have high numbers of anti-oxidants, try putting that into your diet a few times a week. Now think about this, you can destroy the anti-oxidants in your food through your cooking habits. Do not microwave your vegetables or fish, either steam or broil; do not cover in fats and fry. Foods are delicate and you can destroy any health benefits through any improper preparation. Foods are also biological organisms just like you. Now if you are like me and have a tendency to burn things, then do what I did and invest in a juicer and juice your vegetables and fruits, juice your way to healthier living. The amazing thing about juicing, there are so many combinations you can get your kids to drink their vegetables by adding sweet fruits to the mix. Wow!

Now let’s look at the numbers, because of our ignorance, we as a population of people, have caused serious pollution problems on this amazing planet we live on. So we end up taking in roughly one billion free-radicals per day, in the form of pollutants. Let’s see how many anti-oxidants we can take in; if we have one whole grape fruit and two eggs and one piece of toast for breakfast, and let us not forget our multi-vitamin, we will take in about 3,600 anti-oxidants. For a snack we have a banana and a glass of milk that’s about, let’s be generous, 1,800 anti-oxidants. Lunch we have fish with steamed spinach and one cup of whole grain rice, that’s about 4,000 anti-oxidants. Dinner comes and we do very well and have a nice cut of steak and some steamed broccoli with red onions and mushrooms, we now add a yam to that meal and we take in 9,500 anti-oxidants. For the day we did not do very well at all, only 18,900 anti-oxidants. We are losing the football game and we thought we were winning. What can we do? You can drink a lot more fruits and vegetables, by juicing them instead of trying to eat them, and you will not lose the anti-oxidants in these life saving foods. There is also a newly discovered fruit from South East Asia called the Mangosteen Fruit.

The mangosteen fruit has be used in South East Asia for centuries for all types of aliments.  To date there is a significant range of known traditional uses such as; anti-diarrheal, anti-inflammatory, pain control, treatment of infections, fever control, gastro intestinal problems, skin rashes and burns, headaches, anti-parasitic, musculo-skeletal and joint problems, control of blood sugar and diabetes, infections – viral, bacterial and fungal, as well as mouth ulcers, prevention of atherosclerosis, dementia, anxiety and depression, cancer and anti-aging concerns, and there are many, many more. The list of health benefits continues to grow as more clinical studies and scientific research is done on this fruit.
